The Austrian Landwehr became a permanent establishment of the regular army by imperial decree dated 9 June 1808. When war was declared on 9 April 1809, many of the Landwehr battalions had not been raised yet. The French army soon occupied Upper Austria, and on 14 Mai 1809 Napoleon decreed the demobilization of the Upper Austrian Landwehr, threatening to confiscate the personal property of any officers’ who did not return to their homes. Austrian Landwehr uniforms were based on regional folk costumes, which were considered more practical and comfortable than regular army uniforms. The 15 mm miniatures of the Lower Austrian Landwehr pictured above are mounted on company stands compatible with the Empire III game system.
