Reenactment of the Battle of Five Forks

1 – 4 June 2000

96th Pennsylvania infantry.

Am 03.06.2000 fand auf dem Gelände of the US Artillery Kaserne in Babenhausen noch einmal die Schlacht von Five Forks statt. Auf Einladung of the Rhein-Neckar Military Historical Society hatten sich mehr als 350 Darsteller verschiedener Truppenteile des Amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs zum historischen Feldlager im Stadtwald von Babenhausen eingefunden. Gemeinsamer Anlass war of the 135. Jahrestag of the Schlacht von Five Forks, die sich am 01.04.1865 in of the Nähe of the befestigten Stadt Petersburg im amerikanischen Bundesstaat Virginia ereignete.

Starke Unionstruppen saßen nun hinter of the flank of the Confederate, and General Lee musste seine Linien weiter ausdünnen, um dieses Loch wenigstens provisorisch zu stopfen. Am 02. April befahl General Grant einen Generalangriff entlang of the gesamten Front. General Horation Wright fand mit seinem VI Korps die schwächste Stelle of the gegnerischen Verteidigungslinien and brach endlich durch. Noch am Abend and in of the Nacht des 02.
