Anthracite Grey RAL 7016

Anthracite Grey RAL 7016.

»Anthracite Grey RAL 7016«, the colour of Luftwaffe vehicles introduced as »Fliegerblaugrau RAL 7016«, was used as the base colour of large Reichswehr1 equipment from 1935 until it was replaced by the newly introduced base colour »Dark Grey Nr. 46« in July 1937.

According to Heeresmitteilung (HMA) army bulletin No. 687 of 2 November 1938, large equipment was to receive disruptive patches of »Dark Brown No. 45, RAL 7017« that covered ⅓ of the dark grey base coat. However, due to the insufficient contrast between the two colours, this camouflage pattern did not offer any significant advantage over the monochromatic grey base colour, which was standardized with HMA No. 864 of 31 July 1940.

RAL 7016 »Anthracite Grey« was the interior colour of goods wagons of the Deutsche Reichsbahn from 1909 until 1942, when it was replaced by RAL 7011 »Iron Grey«. Since 1996, roofs of goods wagons of the Deutsche Bundesbahn are painted RAL 7016 »Anthracite Grey«.
