The Army of Hesse-Cassel during the Seven Years' War, 1756–1763

The army of the Landgrave of Hesse-Cassel was paid by England to fight for the Anglo-Prussian alliance during the Seven Years' War. In 1756, eight Hessian battalions were transferred to Britian, to avert the danger of a French invasion of Britain. These units returned to Germany at the end of 1757, and joined the allied Army of Observation under Prinz Ferdinand von Braunschweig at Hamelin.

Hesse-Cassel infantry battalions had a nominal strength of 773 men, organised in 10 companies. Each company seconded eight men to the grenadier company of the battalion. The converged grenadier companies of the eleven infantry battalions and the Leib-Garde zu Fuß formed two grenadier battalions of 480 men each.
