Flesh
Flesh tone (incarnation, carnation), the spectrum of human skin colour mixed from red and white, ochre or sienna (phaeomelanin), and brown tones (eumelanin); is complemented in the fantasy and science fiction hobby by green, blue, red, yellow and multi-coloured flesh tones of alien civilizations.
Skin tone is much more than a monochrome paintjob, it varies noticeably on certain parts of the body depending on the pigmentation present there. Palms and soles with little melanin are lighter, nipples and genitals are darker, fingertips, knuckles, ears and nose are reddish because blood vessels shimmer through the epidermis, lips and mucous membranes are red or, in the case of strong pigmentation, darker than the adjacent facial skin. “Flesh tone”, individually pigmented with brown tones, is a good underpainting for subsequent glazes and highlights.
