Kneeling Firing Position

Kneeling Firing Position.

Kneeling firing position, with a ranged weapon, placing it against the shoulder and cheek of the face while kneeling. The illustration shows a grenadier of the Chasseurs de Fischer in a kneeling unsupported firing position behind cover. There are four kneeling firing positions to consider:

  • Kneeling unsupported, e. g. while firing over an obstacle.
  • Kneeling self-supported, by supporting the tricep on the non-firing knee.
  • Kneeling supported, with the weapon resting on a structure or equipment.
  • Kneeling hipfiring, by self-supporting the weapon against the hip.

One advantage of the kneeling firing position is that it makes the shooter a smaller target. The disadvantage can be that the kneeling firing position gives the shooter less stability than the standing or prone firing position.
