Firing Position

Firing Position.

Firing position (Ger. Anschlag), with a longarm, placing it with the stock against the shoulder and cheek of the face. See shooting practice. The illustration shows a grenadier of the Chasseurs de Fischer in a kneeling unsupported firing position behind cover.

In battalion and platoon volley fire, the (German) command “Schlagt an!” is pronounced “t’an!”.
