Garrison
Garrison (from French “garnison”), a location where troops are based in peacetime; then these troops themselves; see garrison troops. At the head of these is the governor (see above) or commander, who mediates all relations between troops and civil authorities. In smaller garrisons, the most senior commander assumes this role as garrison elder. Ownership of garrison facilities (barracks, hospitals, magazines, etc.) is regulated by the Reichsgesetz imperial law of May 25, 1873.
