Navy Blue
Humbrol Authentic Colour HM10

Humbrol Authentic Colour HM10 »Navy Blue«, a dark grey with a noticeable bluish cast, compared to Vallejo 71.115 »Blue Grey RAL 7016« and Vallejo 71.052 »Anthracite Grey RAL 7016«. Humbrol HM10 »Navy Blue« is a very good match for RAL 7016 »Anthracite Grey«, the other two colours are much lighter, they appear to have been pre-tinted by the manufacturer to account for aerial perspective; s. our tutorial “How to Mix Historic Colours: Humbrol HM10 »Navy Blue«”.
Hinchliffe recommended Humbrol HM10 »Navy Blue« as the dark blue coat colour of Prussian Napoleonic infantry, artillery, and lancers, as well the coat and kepi colour of Union infantry, artillery, and cavalry of the American Civil War. However, for reasons of aerial perspective, Humbrol HM10 »Navy Blue« is much too dark for this application, although it may be more suitable for 1:32 scale and larger miniatures.
Miniatures painted in muted colours look far more attractive and realistic than those painted in saturated colours. The strength of the Humbrol Authentic Colours range of hobby paints was that they offered realistic cloth and equipment colours which, for the most part, had been designed with aerial perspective already accounted for.
