Infantry Sabre

Prussian Infantry Sabre Model 1715.

Infantry sabre, a short sabre issued as a sidearm for infantrymen. The Prussian infantry sabre M.1715 pictured above originally had a 78.5 cm blade, which was shortened to 62.8 cm by decree of 1744. The hilt was 14 cm long. The infantry sabre M.1715 was replaced by the infantry sabre M.1816 and the infantry sabre M.1818, without guard.

The French infantry sabre, the “sabre briquet”, was 75 cm long and had a 59 cm blade. The “sabre briquet d‘infanterie de la garde”, on the other hand, was 84 cm long and had a 70 cm blade.
