Roman Legion VI Victrix
I. ROEMERKOHORTE OPLADEN
Legionnaires of I. ROEMERKOHORTE OPLADEN during the Roman encampment at Aalen, 24th September 2000. Centurio Klaus Schwab commanded a mixed unit of legionnaires and auxiliary soldiers at this event. The soldiers demonstrated basic infantry drills and they participated in a mock battle between an advancing line of heavy infantry versus opposing skirmishers. Roemerkohorte Opladen also owns and operates a reproduction of a Roman Balista. The weapon is capable of throwing large stone balls at enemy formations, although wooden training projectiles were used at Aalen. Throughout the day the Centurio, Optio, Signifer, Horn-blower, Medicus and regular legionnaires were on hand to answer the many questions about their personal equipment and the life and times of a Roman soldier.
