12.7 mm DShK »Dashka« Machine Gun
The 12.7 mm DShK »Dashka« (pron. Dushka) heavy machine gun entered service with the Soviet Army in 1938; it had a wheeled carriage with shield and three folding legs which served as a firing platform to engage ground and aerial targets. Ground targets could be engaged from a prone or seated firing position. The carriage wheels had to be in place, the legs of the tripod folded, with the two weaker (outer) legs locked into the spade of the central spar and lashed. To be used in the anti-aircraft role, the wheels and shield had to be removed, and the three legs – lashed next to each other when limbered – raised to form a tripod. The Dushka pictured above comes with the 1:76 scale T-34/76.C produced by Matchbox, even though this tank was never armed with the DShK.
